The Republic of Yemen : The Republic of Yemen is a raw and soulful place.. having just came out of instability and warring in fairly recent years, much of the city is still left in ruins and the people in poverty. A number of new and modern buildings have mushroomed here and there, starkly contrasting the old low-rise buildings around it, as have many richer Yemeni strikingly stand out amongst the poorer majority for decades. As I have found in my 2005 trip in India, the common people of Yemen are generally happy, approachable, and eager to embrace exchange of knowledge and foreign cultures. It was a pity that I couldn't have spent more time there.. but the two days that I spent at Babel Yemen (the old town marketplace), I have made many friends and have felt just a brush of what wonders it might have been if I had stayed long enough to be able to have integrated a little more into being considered a 'local foreigner'. Tribes of Malaysia: Temuan Hillbillies : The Temuan Hill Tribes... their rights to the highland ancestral lands was heartlessly overwritten and flooded by the Malaysian government who built a major dam that drowned acres of land that used to be the peaceful and undisturbed jungles where these people once dwelled in peace and harmony with nature.

Sailing Langkawi - Phuket : Sailing from Pulau Langkawi (Malaysia) to Koh Phuket (Thailand) in March 2006 aboard the Racing Yatch 'Pytheas Aura', with Captain Reinhart and 3 other crew. It was an experience not to be forgotten. I got to learn more sailor's knots and get down and sweaty working like the guys.. It was great just being at sea, with nothing else around us... just the sea, the vessel, and us! The night we slept between 2 islands in the Andaman Sea with nothing else around was a feeling I will never forget... 2 of the crew slept in the cabin downstairs, 2 more on deck and I tied my trusty fisherman's hammock up on deck while a GREAT night's lullaby rocked me to sleep.......! and the next morning, the sunrise and the clarity of the beautiful waters around the islands was a perfect wakeup view! sigh!
